Is Homeland another false dawn?

with 3 comments

I missed the first season of Homeland and surprisingly missed anything to do with the show until I saw that Channel 4 are to show the second season this coming weekend. A little of the hype around the TV show has now rubbed off on me and I have my PVR set to record the new season but I still have a nagging doubt. A doubt that has been bred by popular shows like LOST, Twin Peaks and The Sopranos.

My worry is that Homeland will either be cut too short – although I think 12 episodes a season is better for the overall health of a show – or the writers/producers will let it run past its best-by-date. But a good story is about the journey and not the ending, right? Am I being too harsh on US TV drama?

What made my decision easier to make on whether to watch Homeland or not was how well Claire Danes does of her portrayal of Carrie Mathison – a Bipolar sufferer. I’m not a suffer myself but have had episodes of depression in the last few years and am drawn to characters in drama that have mental kinks in their armour.

So the first season. I have 12 episodes to get into. The recent reruns on More4 are now half way through the season so I don’t have that option and Love Film are being useless as per normal. It would seem I will have to buy the first season box set or download via iTunes.

I’ll post more on Homeland as I get into a first season catch-up. Are my readers waiting for the second season to start?
